Karin Stöver Biography |
A Photographer Named KarinThat's Karin with an "I"Karin Stöver definitely has an "eye" for what makes excellent photographs. This award-winning photographer has been showing her work throughout the US, lecturing to college students and professional photography associations about her work. As if her schedule wasn't full enough, she and her supportive husband, Hans, own and operate Prismatek, a company that imports and distributes fine European fabric through their network, located in Palm Coast, FL. Karin is a fine art and editorial photographer who relocated from Germany not quite 20 years ago. Her rise to being a well-respected photographer in the US happened over a relatively short period of time for artists – about 13 years. However, Karin's drive to be the "best" along with her sensitivity to detail and color, discipline, and an unwavering thirst for "learning" served her well - these factors are the underlying premise for all her endeavors and have made her name quite recognizable as a successful creative photographer. Karin has been published in the International Library of Photography, Southern Accents, and American Massage Therapy magazines (and of course Karin's work is in a number of private collections as well.) A dynamo of energy, Karin is a member of the Art League of Daytona Beach, The Beaux Arts of Volusia, and the Flagler County Art League. She studied with Master Photographer Costa Manus at the Photographic Center in Skopelos, Greece and still takes classes at the Southeast Center of Photographic Studies of the Daytona Beach College. It was PerHans Romnes, who convinced her to visit Jerry Uelsmann. After being invited to his house several times she was inspired to learn his technique creating an image through multiple layers of film. Karin's exhibits and awards are too numerous to delineate here; however, "Best in Show" and "Blue Ribbon" awards along with solo and group exhibits throughout the US are not exceptions to, but saturate her resume. Her work is consciously composed, yet Karin recognizes the potential of "chance" as an important aspect of her work. A provocative narrative is perhaps the most encompassing adjective that can be applied to Karin's complex black and white and color images. Paraphrasing comments from her instructions at Daytona Beach College, Karin has the ability to arrange and rearrange her subjects in a mystical way and create visual magic, engaging the viewer. Karin, using conventional darkroom methods, concentrates on strong composition as the basis for her images and employs color to both support her strong underlying linear structure and to dramatize her content.
